Christine van Rooy

Christine van Rooy is Co-Founder and Managing Principal of VANROOY design, bringing more than 25 years of experience to the design of hotels, restaurants, bars, resorts, and experiential residential environments.
Her perspective is rooted in a simple belief: great design should do more than look beautiful. It should work. Christine is fascinated by the relationship between environment and behavior: how design influences where people move, gather, linger, connect, spend, and return.
Since founding VANROOY design with her husband and business partner, Design Director Jerry van Rooy, in 2008, Christine has helped build the studio around the intersection of craft, strategy, and story. Her experience working both in hospitality operations and design gives her a practical perspective and an almost obsessive interest in making sure the big idea and the smallest detail work together.
Today, Christine is increasingly focused on a bigger question: what could the interior design profession become if we better understood our impact beyond aesthetics? She believes thoughtful design can shape human behavior, strengthen connection, improve how spaces function, and ultimately change the way people experience the world around them.
Gerardus (Jerry) van Rooy
CO-FOUNDER, DESIGNER DIRECTOR, AND VISIONARY
Jerry van Rooy is Co-Founder and Design Director of VANROOY design, and the creative visionary behind the studio’s hotel, restaurant, bar, resort, and experiential residential environments.
His approach to design begins with three ideas he established as the foundation of VANROOY: craft, strategy, and story. Jerry believes the most memorable spaces are not defined by a single aesthetic, but by a strong sense of place, where every material, detail, and design decision contributes to an experience that feels authentic to its story.
With a degree in Industrial Design and an early career working with furniture and lighting manufacturers, Jerry developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship, precision, and how things are made. That foundation continues to shape his love of interior products: furniture, lighting, handcrafted objects, and all things machined, bringing an industrial designer’s curiosity and attention to detail to everything VANROOY creates.
Since founding VANROOY design with his wife and business partner, Christine, in 2008, Jerry has led the creative vision for the studio’s work. He is endlessly curious about what makes an experience memorable and finds inspiration in art, architecture, travel, music, history, culture, and the unexpected details that give a place its soul.
